X Nightmare, containing three playful characters, as well as new weapons, shots, music, and finally a safety mode to unlock combos to use in the game. However, some new features, not disclosed by the developers, have been brought to be discovered by fans of the franchise. This is the case of Roo, a secret character from Streets of Rage 3, who returns in this fourth installment and we explain the procedure to follow to get it.

In Streets of Rage 3, you can remember this kangaroo-like character, who can’t be unlocked by defeating his master, or by using a cheatcode on the game’s home screen. Roo makes a comeback in Streets of Rage 4 and even if it doesn’t unlock a regular battle basis, a basic combination allows you to get it. In the main menu of the title screen, press the buttons Top, Options / Start and Square / X simultaneously. However, I still stand by my comments about the super armour being a lazy-ass design choice and some of the enemies really feel like they need some tuning (looking at you, biker chicks) Then go to the Level Selection section and there along with the iconic Streets of Rage 3 characters, you can find Roo’s icon there and choose him to fight.EDIT: After another 8 or so hours with the game and most of the way to my 3rd completion, I'll say that I was wrong about Floyd - he's really, really good. I want to start off by saying there are a lot of things I do like about this game. The designs of the new characters are fantastic, for example. The colours, art style, cutscenes and music are all fun and engaging and I love some of the ways that features of the previous games have been referenced, such as Estel using the SoR1 special as a boss arena hazard (although more on that in a moment).I also really like how some of the combos feel to perform and there are way more options for mixing up character's available moves to do cool things. It's great that there's more depth and things to discover. Maybe it's because I've played WAY more of SoR2 than any other game in the series, but some of the enemy mechanics seem so goddamn cheap to me. It feels like I'm playing with SoR2 player abilities vs SoR3 enemy abilities.

Playing as Axel, Blaze or Floyd, I have such low mobility, no roll and no dash, yet there are heaps of completely standard enemies who can just zip across the entire screen diagonally and just wail on me.This is something I'd expect from bosses, like Abadede (wrestler) or R.Bear (the goofy boxer) from SoR2, but when random tazer cops and biker chicks can blindside me with no way to dodge, parry, or block it starts feeling super cheap. The defensive specials also feel way less useful than they did in SoR2, especially now that they cost health even when you don't hit anything. Max was always my favourite in SoR2 and I could do really well with him even against high-mobility enemies like Jet, Zamza, and the various ninja mooks. Why? Because he had that bitchin' power-slide move, a solid defensive option with his stationary special, and his jump-attacks (the double axe-handle and elbow drop) had excellent priority. Naturally, I picked up Floyd first since I thought he'd give me the closest experience but I found that against enemies like Estel when I'm supposed to dodge artillery shots and grenades it's damn-near impossible.
